Last night Gucci partnered with DSM to celebrate the work of photographer Paige Powell with an exclusive installation event at the Dover Street Market London store. The hand-installed immersive experience saw Powell’s recreation of her original 1984 art installation from Belulah Land in the East Village, New York and featured over 3000 images from Powell’s extensive archive of New York’s art scene in the 70s and 80s. The in-store cocktail event saw Powell supported by the likes of Pam Hogg, Ronan McKenzie and Nick Rhodes, and was followed by a private dinner hosted by Powell at the Rose Bakery.
Alongside the installation comes Powell’s eponymous Dashwood publication that launched earlier this year with a similar event at the Gucci store on Wooster Street, SoHo, NY. The hardcover limited-edition book comprises Powell’s iconic imagery with rare, never-before-seen photos of New York’s 80s culture, arts, and nightlife moments featuring the likes of Jean-Michel Basquiat, Madonna, David Bowie, and Bill Cunningham.
The installation is open to the public from 6 November with the book now available at Dover Street Market London, as well as in Gucci Wooster, Gucci Garden in Florence and through Dashwood Books, priced at £234, $295 USD or €260.
