Stylish, romantic and distinctly Gucci, the Italian brand's new Gucci Décor Collection is the perfect addition to any Alessandro Michele worshipper's home.

If we've learnt anything over the past year, it's that our homes are our sanctuary - places we can retreat to in times of need as they help us divulge our own fantasies away from the outside world. As soon as the nation went into lockdown in March 2020, we suddenly found ourselves spending a lot more time cocooned in our self-made nests than we ever thought we would. Our kitchen tables were transformed into office desks, while our living rooms became custom to a weekly Zoom party that saw us clinking our glasses against our screens in celebration of getting through yet another week of lockdown - understanding this more than anyone is the Italian luxury fashion house Gucci, hence their new range, Gucci Décor.

Admitting that, 'Personal space is a canvas on which we can express ourselves' Gucci Décor was thought up by Gucci's creative director Alessandro Michele, accompanied by a dedicated campaign that features the Museo Atelier Canova Tadolini in Rome as a backdrop, serving up a healthy dose of intimacy, history and all-round romance that encourages escapism and fantasy. Surrounded by a collection of sculptures by Antonio Canova, Adamo Tadolini and the following generations of artists who inhabited its very backdrop, the campaign adds to the romance that's already steeply embedded in many of the collection's offerings.

Included in the Gucci Décor collection is a selection of decorative coloured tableware, candles, blankets, cushions, wallpapers and furnishings - all brought in to enhance the comfortability that a home offers. As we can all imagine, if it's a Gucci-cladded home, it's bound to be a stylish one. Choosing to remain forever inspired by the Gucci maximalist ethos and aesthetic, Michele has chosen to reference the luxury label's extensive archive of designs (mainly prints of flora and fauna), throughout the collection, with the tableware being adorned in Gucci's well-loved Herbarium print, adding to the romance and vibrance of the collection as a whole. A lion's head - a signature motif in many of Gucci's jewellery designs - also decorates the top of the new cutlery, introduced as part of the tableware range, which, if preferred, can be embossed with the owner's initials, adding a sense of intimacy to the collection.

Michele looked to the house's legacy and archive as well as his own previous designs for the house, meaning that instead of being a separate entity to everything else, the Gucci Décor range can be used as a building block; where customers can add to their previous Gucci Décor or even Gucci ready-to-wear purchases in the knowledge that all the varying pieces, no matter how eclectic, will work seamlessly together. Another sentimental touch is that the entirety of the Gucci Décor collection is made in Italy; not only a nod to Gucci's legacy but to Italian art as a whole and the great tradition of the country's artisan makers.

Tracing Gucci's roots as a symbol of luxury as well as Italy's rich and artistic history, Michele's tableware pieces are made from high-quality porcelain by the famous Florentine firm of Ginori 1735, which was acquired by Gucci in 2013 - the brand have a long-standing history of exploring the beauty and sentimentality of craftsmanship.

Homes are our temples. They're places where we can fully unwind and be ourselves, relax without fear of judgement and tune in to our own imaginary worlds, far away from reality. After a long hard day, if you're looking to huddle up on your sofa so you can drift off and dream effortlessly, the Gucci Décor collection has also added a range of cushions, quilts and blankets - all distinctly Gucci through their clashing but complementary colours and embroidered silks.

If you're looking to add even more romance to a night in by yourself, we can all agree there's nothing quite like a warm and inviting scented candle. Knowing this, Michele also has included three candles in the collection, designed in coloured opaline glass. Reminiscent of specific containers found in 19th-century pharmacies, the candles are crafted employing artisanal mouth-blown glass production techniques that can be traced back 500 years to the Venice lagoon.

Whether you're looking for distinctive, stylish home editions to add to your already vast Gucci collection of belongings or if you're a newbie to the world of designer crockery, Gucci Décor is just the ticket. The unique purchases can be purchased at all Gucci flagship store, Gucci boutique, or online at gucci.com.
