Wearing nothing but bikini bottoms and the Italian brand's new Marina Chain jewellery collection, the Canadian-Ukrainian model returns to fashion after a seven year hiatus.

Six weeks ago, designer Sabato De Sarno posted a picture of the Chateau Marmont pool to his Instagram. In the pool, stood four camera assistants holding a photography umbrella as the L.A sun beat down, the arm of a model just visible. The woman in question? Daria Werbowy. The brand? Gucci.

Launched today, the campaign is Sarno's first as Gucci's creative director. Wearing nothing but bikini bottoms and the Italian brand's new Marina Chain jewellery collection, a play on the anchor chain first introduced in the 1960s, the Canadian-Ukrainian model returns to fashion after a seven year hiatus. Photographed by David Sims, the campaign offers a stripped back and considered idea of luxury and beauty for the famously maximalist brand.

Ahead of Sarno's first runway show as Gucci's creative director later this week, his choice of Werbowy for his debut campaign is a nod to their own paths in fashion, both starting their careers at Prada in 2003. Two decades later, a new chapter begins.
