Renowned fashion designer Hussein Chalayan has announced his turn towards education, taking up a professorship at the HTW Berlin University of Applied Sciences starting this Winter term 2019/20. Looking internationally, the professorship sought out designers with extensive professional and technical expertise in the fashion industry, fitting then that the role should fall to the Cypriot-born Turkish designer, known for his innovative use of materials, meticulous pattern cutting and progressive attitude to new technology, who has twice been voted Designer of the Year.

A part of the Fashion Design study programme, Chalayan’s course at the university’s School of Design and Culture will focus on the ‘Fundamentals of Design and Design Processes’ centring on sustainability and innovation, whilst also looking at applied interdisciplinary research and practical cooperation projects within the global fashion industry.
