It's Black History Month UK, running from 1-31 October 2020. Black History Month was founded by Akyaaba Addai-Seddo in October 1987. He was inspired by Black History Month in the US, which was started as Negro History Week by Carter G. Woodson in February 1926.

Black History Month UK is all about celebrating and educating about Africa's contribution to the world, through the lens of the UK's own Black history, from slavery to civil rights, the Windrush and colonialism, to entertainment, art and much much more.

2020's #BLM protests provoked a serious reckoning with the UK's institutional racism and violent colonial history.

This Black History Month is an opportunity to double down on learning about Black British history, acting for racial equality, and celebrating the people making Black British futures bright.

We'll be posting and sharing across the month to support Black History Month UK.
