Paying tribute to Christian Dior's passion and the 'creative spirit of games', the new Dior Men's capsule collection include references to a pack of cards with the Ace and the King and Queen of Hearts permeating the collection's overall aesthetic.
Choosing to team up once more with the American painter Kenny Scharf for a capsule collection, Dior Men's creative director Kim Jones has cleverly woven a distinct surrealist pop aesthetic inspired by Scharf's own work through menswear staples. A new silk Scharf-style print - adorned with a playing card and the signature Dior oblique motif - finds itself on a pair of shorts, a shirt and black jacket while short sleeved T-shirts feature the Dior logo reimagined, accompanied by a smiley face. Scharf and Jones previously teamed up on Dior Men's pre-fall 2021.
Partial to a collaboration or two, Scharf has also worked with many of his contemporaries and friends alike, previously collaborating with artists Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat.
In a statement, Scharf reflected on his work's carefully-considered attributes:
'One very important and guiding principle to my work is to reach out beyond the elitist boundaries of fine art and connect to popular culture through my art. My personal ambition has always been to live the example. I believe the artist has a social responsibility to engage others in a thought process that ultimately brings the creative process into everyday life thereby enhancing the quality of our experience.'
The collection will be available to buy on Dior.com from 2 July.
