Liam Hodges' 'Brave New World' Has Arrived
The Liam Hodges A/W 20 collection first made its debut back in January, when the designer teamed up with SlamJam and Fashion East to host a party in Milan. Released also via a lookbook, the Brave Old World, New Ideas collection drew upon Aldous Huxley's 1932 dystopian novel for its title, post-futurism being a recurrent theme which has come to define the Liam Hodges universe. The focus this season for the designer was on craft and sustainability, but without taking his finger off the fast-moving pulse of subculture and urban wear. Crochet and hand embroidered cardigans met with retro-futuristic graphics and text from Shakespeare's The Tempest. Now the third drop of products from the collection are available to get your hands on.
Highlights include the recycled rubber tote bag, featuring the A/W 20 collection's archetypal crochet in a removal black and red square, complete with diamond eyelet motif. The bag debuts a collaboration with Barcelona-based brand Nukak, utilizing rubber from truck tyres to create a new durable fabric which feels utterly modern and luxe. Scarves also add to the mix, constructed using three classic scarf variants together with an exclusive reworked vintage Liam Hodges logo.
What Liam Hodges collection would be complete without covetable tees, here they feature one colour screen print graphics, such as the 'New Old Ideas Long Sleeve' which is made from repurposed pre-shredded vintage t-shirts, or the 'Lost Futures Tee', which features hand drawn illustrations. To top off the ultimate product drop, comes the now infamous 'Rug Coat'. Constructed from shredded flannel shirts with a distinct 'rugging' technique which creates an explosive textured surface, the oversized coat weighs over 25KG and was handmade in London. Surely one for the devoted Liam Hodges fan's archive.
