Valentino's creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli and CEO Jacopo Venturini have announced that the Maison will be supporting Italy's entry to La Biennale di Venezia this year. In a first for the country, a single artist will be representing the nation, with artist Gian Maria Tosatti creating a large-scale environmental installation titled History of Night and Destiny of Comets, meditating on "the current state of humanity and its prospects". Tosatti's prolific body of work incorporates site-specific installations which engage with space and dimension to invoke a sense of haunting drama, not unlike Piccioli's own designs for Valentino.
The move continues the strong bond between Valentino and Venice, with the house sponsoring the 49th International Theatre Festival, Biennale Teatro in 2021 and Piccioli presenting his couture show, Valentino Des Ateliers in July 2021 at Le Gaggiandre of the Arsenale, next to the location of the Italian Pavilion.
