Martine Sitbon Is Revving Up For Her Return To Fashion
The 90s was an iconic decade in fashion. The over-the-top runways of Jean Paul Gaultier and Alexander McQueen have led to lasting legacies that are still talked about and referenced today. Still, among the global titans, there were equally talented designers who (for whatever reason) didn’t reach the acclaim of their contemporaries. One of which is Parisian designer Martine Sitbon. The cult-favourite designer launched her eponymous label in 1986 and would go on to define a decade of Parisian cool.
Throughout the 90s, Sitbon was acclaimed for her androgynous silhouettes, flair for romance, and rock'n'roll edge. Not easily defined, Sitbon encouraged women to embrace their inner femininity and masculinity through razor-sharp tailoring, and bias cut dresses in silks and velvets. It was her affinity for layer and graphic prints that saw her become Chloé's first female creative director in 1987 and saw her become a favourite for the era's it-girls like Cate Blanchett and Kate Moss.
Taking control of her design legacy Sitbon is back with a brand new label, Rev. Venturing through her extensive archive the designer is set to revisit some of her most iconic designs. With movement and fluidity at the core of this latest venture, Sitbon hopes to capture the androgyny that made her a cult-favourite to begin with. While based out of of Milan (in a showroom designed by British architect John Pawson), Rev will make its debut at Paris Fashion Week this March.
