2023 will mark the year of the rabbit in the Chinese Lunar calendar, so naturally, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit is the star of Givenchy's latest collaboration with Disney. Also celebrating 100 years of The Walt Disney Company, a limited-edition capsule collection takes the playful spirit of the iconic animated figure and fuses it with the vision of creative director Matthew Williams' Givenchy.
Oswald the Lucky Rabbit is a Disney cartoon character, debuted to the world in 1927. Earlier this month, Oswald was re-born via a short film; their first new appearance in nearly 95 years. Now, they join a host of famous faces including Madelaine Petsch, Amber Liu and Alton Mason in a mixed-reality short film made by Walt Disney Animation Studios, and art director and photographer Julian Klincewicz in collaboration with Givenchy. Travelling from the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles, to Shanghai, New York, Tokyo and Paris, real life figures travel through the magical, animated series of locations, before landing at the House of Givenchy.
Alongside Oswald's cinematic world tour, comes a capsule collection designed by Williams, which includes iconic accents from Disney and Givenchy. Emblems featuring Oswald the Lucky Rabbit run throughout, from riding a bronco to a motorcycle, coming together with the Givenchy 4G logo and Williams' signature Givenchy graffiti-style treatments. Key pieces include a women's varsity jacket in blue and a men's in red, denim jeans and matching jacket, t-shirts, hoodies and track pants. Accessories range from tennis shoes to cross-body bags and phone cases.
Inviting the audience to immerse themselves in the world of Disney and Givenchy, the Oswald Sky Painter AR lens launches on Snapchat on 15 December 2022, allowing users to paint the sky with paint, stencils and passport stamps highlighting the 5 cities of Oswald’s Givenchy journey.
The Disney x Givenchy capsule collection will be available starting 16 December 2022 in China, Singapore and Tokyo Ikebukuro pop-ups as well as the Miami Aventura pop-up on 19 December and will be available globally on December 30th in stores and on Givenchy.com.
