Nick Knight Teases More About Upcoming Metaverse Project
‘It's a completely different, alternative space to communicate, collaborate and participate,’ explained SHOWstudio founder Nick Knight in a recent interview with WWD on the growing possibilities of the evolving metaverse. 'You can go there and talk to people from all across the world. I go to virtual events and meet people from every country, without any barriers. I wouldn’t say it's a utopian space, but it is a space that we are inventing at the moment and my real push is to get artists to become involved in it.’ Earlier this year, SHOWstudio took part in Decentraland's first Metaverse Fashion Week, where Knight and Cash Lab's founder David Cash discussed fashion's Web 3.0 shift.
The famed fashion photographer and digital innovator has never been shy about his fascination with evolving tech and how he utilises it in his work. A pioneer of 3D scanning, Knight began experimenting with its capabilities in the late 90s for a project titled Sweet. Using a CT head scanner, he captured stylist Jane How's recreations of the S/S 00 collections in a series of abstract images. It shouldn't come as a surprise then, that over two decades later, he would be utilising 3D imaging in his latest metaverse project. Working with model and stylist Jazzelle Zanaughtti, a host of yet-to-be-announced creatives and state of the art technology, Knight has revealed the project will explore ‘what a Web3 fashion editorial could look like'. As he explained to WWD, 'I'm borrowing the structure and language of a fashion shoot, but visually it feels totally new.'
