Raf Simons is releasing a line of innovative footwear, influenced by sportswear. The footwear collection will debut on the Raf Simons Autumn/Winter 2020 runway show in Paris, on 15 January 2020, and will no doubt go to #1 'Most Searched' on Grailed immediately after. The collection includes eight new styles, which will be an 'investigation of form and function and an exploration of shape,' according to the press release, which added that they 'challenge and re-propose the typical silhouette of sports sneakers'. Most excitingly, this is the initial step in a long-form project that will be expanded upon in subsequent seasons.

With no images available as yet, we can only speculate about what they may look like through the brand's press release which indicates the line focuses on natural materials, such as leather and suede. Technical innovations and bold colour mark out the range, as does their moulded heel design.

Having recently collaborated with subcultural stalwart Dr Martens, this sports-focused line is a Simons solo project. The footwear collection is independently manufactured and designed by Raf Simons, and will be offered for sale through the Paris showroom after the show from 18-23 January.

Simons is arguably one of the founding fathers of the stacked sole chunky trainer trend that's swept through fashion of late, having developed the Ozweego shoe with Adidas - the shoe is now a cult favourite and even has its own dedicated Instagram account. With the Balenciaga Triple S wave having peaked, fashion's ready for a new it-sneaker, and Raf could be just the man to do it.
