The LVMH-owned luggage label Rimowa have decided to take a look back at their monumental history ahead of publishing their latest book, Rimowa: An Archive in collaboration with Rizzoli.
Rimowa have been stylishly helping people with their luggage cases since 1898. Rimowa: An Archive showcases previously unseen imagery with the pages of the book decorated with photographs, illustrations and other vintage brand ephemera taken from the brand's archive.
With a foreword written by Wallpaper* founder and editor-in-chief of Monocle, Tyler Brûlé, the book uncovers the brand's 122-year history by examining Rimowa staples and how the brand has continued to evolve since its beginnings. Always tackling their designs with a modern approach, Rimowa: An Archive documents the brand's incorporation of lightweight aluminium into their designs in 1937 along with the creation of the first-ever polycarbonate luggage in 2000.
More recently, the luggage brand have collaborated with other labels like Supreme, Dior, Off-White and Fendi, and also earned the title of being the first German-owned luxury house to join the LVMH group in 2017.
Unpacking the history of Rimowa in the same way its luggage has helped travellers unpack for the last 100 years, Rimowa: An Archive serves as an ode to modern design in the luxury sector, tracing the brand's journey through three different centuries.
