Sacai Reimagines Nike Classics
This September Sacai and Nike will launch their collaborative A/W 19 collection, a continuation of a creative partnership forged in 2014. The seasonal offering sees classic sportswear staples reimagined through a high fashion lens, as well a deconstructed take on the Nike LDWaffle and Blazer sneakers.
For Sacai Creative Director, Chitose Abe, the collaboration is firmly rooted in balance. As she puts it 'the partnership needs to contribute exactly half the work.' Abe transforms the Nike Windrunner jacket into a skirt, overlays shoe silhouettes and patchworks athletic fabrics; she is true to her word.
Supported by the sportswear giant, Sacai was able to realise its concepts. 'We literally got two photocopied pictures of two different shoes that they folded in half and put on top of each other', recounts Fraser Cooke, Nike Special Projects Senior Director.
The collection is set to drop in two instalments – no doubt diarised by sneakerheads worldwide. The first drop is confirmed for 12 September, the second is yet to be announced.
