Stella McCartney Announces New Capsule Collection With adidas
Always looking to push fashion's boundaries, exploring the different possibilities between sustainability, athleisure and luxury, Stella McCartney has announced they will be releasing their first-ever catwalk collaboration with adidas as part of their Summer 2021 collection.
Although the capsule collection is separate from adidas by Stella McCartney and will instead be presented under the McCartney A to Z Manifesto: Summer 2021 Show, the collaboration marks years of partnership between the two brands, highlighting their devotion to making fashion a more inclusive and diverse place. From dressing and designing the next generation like McCartney and adidas did with their Futureplayground collection or shaping the future of fashion and challenging the industry by starting to use more sustainable materials to create equally luxury garments. McCartney spoke about the importance of her relationship with adidas by saying, 'Over the last 16 years, our collaboration with adidas has pushed the boundaries of sustainable performance wear and I wanted to celebrate that by bringing our brands together in a new way. This capsule simultaneously energises classic Stella outerwear with a youthful athleticism, while elevating sportswear with our effortless luxury perspective'.
Since Stella McCartney and adidas became the first-ever designer and sports brand to collaborate, announcing their partnership back in 2005, the fashion industry has become increasingly more familiar with adopting sportswear as part of its runways, thanks to the popular 'athleisure' look that's on the rise. Spearheading this movement and contributing towards high fashion's relationship with sportswear, together, McCartney and adidas have helped introduce new consumers to the luxury fashion sector over the 21st century, while also doing so in an eco-friendly manner.
This capsule collection seems to be the first of many firsts for McCartney and adidas; not only is it McCartney's first catwalk collaboration with the sportswear brand but also the designer's first-ever use of adidas' iconic three stripes. Key pieces include a 'McCartney interpretation' of an adidas tracksuit as well as a more casual and sporty approach to the British brand's classic trench coat. The collection ranges in price from £325 to £750 and will be available to purchase at stellamccartney.com from 28 April.
