For A/W 22, sustainable-fashion giant Stella McCartney charted the career of legendary American artist Frank Stella resulting in the humorously-named collection Stella by Stella. Cited as the collection's primary reference point, Stella's influence on McCartney was channelled through abstract prints inspired by the artist's Spectalia, appearing as monochrome shapes on lurex eveningwear. Working on the body's sculptural shapes, masculine codes are subverted with Saville Row tailoring embellished with lace. The stark contrast of ideas perfectly fits with the artist himself, whose body of work is known for juxtaposing different ideas.

McCartney's choice in getting Stranger Things star Sadie Sink to front the editorial isn't one that should be overlooked, with Sink herself sharing similar passions to McCartney - both are vegan and have a love for animals - the latter evidenced through photographer Theo Wenner's shots of the young star. Choosing the Ranch gallery in Montauk as the perfect backdrop, horses are showcased next to never-before-seen Stella sculptures - making sure each passion and inspiration of the Stella McCartney brand is covered. McCartney said in a statement:

'Conscious fashion, art, nature, animals, music...This story was quintessentially Stella and brought together and brought together so many elements and people I love. It almost felt like a family on the shoot, and that playfulness and energy translates into the iconic visuals Theo (Wenner) captured of Sadie wearing our Frank Stella pieces. She truly feels like the face of the next generation, and I could not be prouder to work with her.'

Making sure shared values are seen and heard is what makes McCartney so unique. As well as her continuing pledge to represent the next generation of global change-makers and creative voices, the designer's continued innovation in textiles also adds to her relevance and influence on other young London designers, with this collection proving to be no exception thanks to its utilised vegan alternatives from leather to feathers, and fur.
