Stella McCartney's New Collaboration Sees Fashion As Fantasy
Stella McCartney teams up with Disney for the second time, blending fashion and fantasy to transport a new generation into the illusory world.
Stella McCartney teams up with Disney for the second time, blending fashion and fantasy to transport a new generation into the illusory world.
Inspired by McCartney's love of Disney, as illustrated when Minnie Mouse attended her A/W 22 show at Paris Fashion Week, Stella McCartney's new Disney collaboration with Fantasia blends fantasy with fashion, following meticulously crafted pieces that double up as collector's items. As the British luxury house meets the House of Mouse, avant-garde takes on traditional Disney characters such as Mickey Mouse are thrown into the mix, reinterpreting the timeless Disney film for a new audience through the power of dress.
Also drawing on McCartney's love of nature - as so expertly represented in the brand's last campaign, which looked to the power of mushrooms - the new collaboration chronicles stories from the evolution of life itself, as shown in Fantasia's fourth and longest segment Rite of Spring, composed by legendary composer and inspiration to Michael Clark, Igor Stravinsky.
Rare 1940s posters have also been repurposed alongside Disney characters to feature in the designs, which sit on limited edition old stock silks from LVMH's Nona Source. The knitwear sports Mickey and broomstick-man graphics riffing on the film's The Sorcerer's Apprentice segment, while other bodycon knits reinterpret the film's night skies and S/S 22 glitter through PVC-free sequins. Other Disney graphics have also been warped, Stella-style, and printed onto dresses and vintage t-shirts, while utility shirts, boyfriend jeans and a hoodie jacket feature Mickey prints on the back.
Oh, and of course, the Stella McCartney presents Disney Fantasia collection is all sustainable - Stella style - made from organic kinds of cotton, recycled silks, nylons and wool from regenerative farms. This is Stella McCartney after all, what else were you expecting?
Catch the collection in real time on StellaMcCartney.com, as soon as Thursday 6 April.
