Steven Meisel Shoots Swarovski’s Latest Campaign
Steven Meisel has been on a roll for the last couple of months. From Miley Cyrus on the cover of British Vogue to shooting actor Florence Pugh for Valentino’s DI.VA campaign, the legendary fashion photographer isn’t slowing down his second coming anytime soon as Swarovski has just unveiled its latest campaign. Conceived by Giovanna Engelbert, the brand’s creative director brings together visionaries Pat McGrath and Steven Meisel in a celebration of self-expression and sparkle.
Dubbed 'Metamorphosis', the campaign highlights the transformative power of crystals. Inspired by Swarovski’s various lines of jewellery, McGrath creates four unique make-up looks embodying the butterfly, parrot, pineapple and turtle. Still, it isn’t the animal kingdom but Swarovski’s Austrian heritage that Engelbert is drawing from. Rather than lush rainforests or savannahs, it’s the magical garden rooms created by Maria-Theresa at Vienna’s 18th century Schönbrunn Palace that informed the campaign.
‘Maria-Theresa’s garden rooms are populated from her dreams,’ explains Engelbert. 'They are fantastical spaces painted with murals of exotic flora and fauna from around the globe that would never naturally share the same habitat. In the same way, I wanted to create an enchanted crystal garden that does not exist in nature but still brings the same joy.’
