The next development in fashion's recent foray into the world of gaming sees Lacoste team up with Minecraft in an attempt to 'build bridges between two worlds', designing custom outfits for the virtual game characters.
Creating a collaboration exploring the virtual and the real, French sportswear brand Lacoste have teamed up with gaming legends Minecraft to create custom-designed outfits for real-life players and their on-screen avatars. Designed in mind to suit 'every gaming style', the Lacoste S/S 22 collection has been immortalised in the virtual gaming world, following steps already taken by the likes of Balenciaga, Louis Vuitton, Stefan Cooke and Gucci, who too have all designed outfits for gaming avatars in an attempt to explore the early stages of the metaverse.
For more than a decade, gaming enthusiasts of all ages have been immersed in the multicoloured landscape maps of Minecraft, yet fashion's presence has been minimal - if it even existed at all. Challenging this, Lacoste's one-off collection covering a wardrobe for men, women and children features a variety of ready-to-wear and accessories, all adorned with the signature pixelated Minecraft graphics.
House codes merge as the collaboration sees Lacoste's crocodile logo redesigned and pixelated by the Minecraft Creative Studio. Wanting to centre the collaboration around the notion of 'play', quotes from both brands elaborating on this are also stamped onto the collection's key pieces. Bridging a gap between two worlds that have only become entangled recently, Lacoste's Minecraft collaboration is yet another to push the metaverse agenda; understanding that our virtual outfits hold just as much importance as our real-life looks.
