If you’re a foodie then the name Chantilly is sure to conjure images of delicate sweet cream best served with fresh pastries. But if you’re French it’s probably the Château de Chantilly (where the eponymous cream was allegedly invented in 1671 by then-owner Duc de Condé’s chef), that should spring to mind. After all, the palatial estate with its sprawling forests and scenic gardens is one of the nation’s most treasured heritage sites. It’s also where Pierpaolo Piccioli has chosen to unveil Valentino’s A/W 24 haute couture collection.

Located just 50 kilometres from Paris, the 15th-century chateau draws crowds from around the world with its ornate salons and manicured grounds. Long the home to princes and kings, it also boasts an impressive collection of art, jewels and books from the Renaissance. And while the château is best known for its connection to the light as air cream, with his penchants for the ornate and romantic we’re sure Piccioli’s sartorial references will go beyond the chateau’s kitchens.

The Valentino A/W 24 haute couture show will take place on 5 July at 18:30 BST.
