After a 15 year history of international e-commerce success, the French footwear and accessories label Veja have opened their first physical retail space. Located in Paris' popular Marais district, the store unites Veja's collections under one roof. Designed by architecture agency ciguë, the architectural space has minimalistic and ecological concerns at its core, echoing those of Veja, a label known for its use of ethically sourced organic materials. Since 2008, the brand has powered its stores and main offices with the French green electric cooperative ENERCOOP and earlier this year launched their first ecological running trainer.
In recent years the Veja trainer has adorned the feet of many, best recognised by their simple silhouette marked by a 'V' logo. The Paris retail-space has been designed as a blank canvas for the Veja trainer to sit within, with the building first stripped back to its initial state before walls were lined with plaster and recycled paper panels. Veja sneakers sit atop a central white block and line the shelves neatly carved into the rough walls, whilst neon-lights designed by the Brazilian artist Kleber Matheus illuminate the Veja product in full glory.
