Back in September it was announced that Demna Gvasalia would be stepping down from his post as creative director of Vetements, the fashion brand founded by the Georgian Gvasalia brothers back in 2014. The latest news from the Zurich-based label came at the WWD Apparel and Retail CEO Summit earlier this week, when CEO Guram Gvasalia announced the construction of a platform to support and guide young designers. With a focus on emerging and developing talent, the programme is in keeping with the Vetements collective ethos, and aims to support young creatives entering the industry. Launching within the next year, the platform hopes to see a co-working space within the Vetements office for the designers, and will comprise educational talks with students to discuss the ins-and-outs of the fashion industry as well as offering scholarships to those deemed fit.
Guram Gvasalia also spoke of how the brand will be expanding post his brother’s departure, stating, ‘With a big ready-to-wear business, the plan is to start separate businesses around that such as ones for shoes, underwear and sunglasses that will each have their own distribution channels.'
