Andreja Pejić by Jowy Maasdamme

“I am quite proud of this moment in my high fashion career because it represented something more than just a runway show or a display of a beautiful couture wedding dress for sale. It marked the beginning of fashion’s exploration of non-binary beauty, one of the most culturally significant trends in the past decade to come out of this industry; in fact it preluded the current pop culture gender explosion, shaking traditional social values to the ground. Thus laying the basis for more expression, diversity and cross pollination. On a personal level, I was never the sort of girl that was even given the right to dream about her ideal wedding day, much less communicate her desires to anyone. It was equivalent to a sin for me to even have those thoughts. So when I walked down that Jean Paul Gaultier [Couture S/S 11] runway that was my isle and I was marrying fashion.”
