As part of the SHOWstudio Shop exhibition In Your Face, London-based avant-garde fashion design duo Void Of Course took up residence at SHOWstudio for two days to create a one-off series of garments they describe as a 'performance portrait' in a unique live broadcast. The term 'Void Of Course' describes a moment in the lunar cycle where the moon moves into a new aspect, a time notoriously associated with a sense of detachment, melancholy and a loosening grip of reality.
Regardless of where the moon was at the time, we experienced a similar force, as Void Of Course designers Chris Sutton and Sean-Anthony Moran explored fashion's darker side. The foundation of clothing is cut, after all - but Void Of Course took a rather more macabre approach to that idea, dissecting dress and combining couture with surgery, taking their inspiration from a bizarre fusion of Francis Bacon, The Carpenters, mental deterioration and Silence Of The Lambs serial killer Buffalo Bill. Think Jaques Fath meets Frankenstein. The resulting garments - a erotic elastic dress and tumor-ridden hat - are now available from the SHOWstudio Shop, with highlights from the live footage now featured in our edit of the two day's footage.
