Victorian women wearing a hoop skirt. Date unknown.
Front cover of “Zang Tumb Tuuum: Adrianople October” (1912) by Futurist founder Filippo Tommaso Marinetti.
Futurist words in freedom - Page from “Parole en Libertá” (1919) by Futurist founder Filippo Tommaso Marinetti.
“Unique Forms of Continuity in Space” by Umberto Boccioni (1913) The reason for my tangent into Futurism is that I strongly feel the energy, speed, and punch of Maison Margiela’s Artisanal collection seems to be a modern-day incarnation of the century-old movement. To me, this Boccioni statue embodies the power and strength of the collection and vice versa.
Maison Margiela S/S 18 Artisanal Show hair by Eugene Souleiman. This rubberised hairstyle is an example of the feeling of speed that runs throughout this collection. There was a physical energy that seemed to link these women together, a gale blustering so forcefully behind them, propelling them forward.
Section of “Whaam!” triptych - Roy Liechtenstein (1963)
Evening Dress - Cristóbal Balenciaga (1964)
Look 28. Coat in reflective prism film with giant polka dots worn with a reflective prism film bustier with reflective giant polka dots. High top trainers.
Cityscape from Blade Runner 2049 - Denis Villeneuve (2017) I imagine this to be the habitat where Galliano’s characters (dressed in full Margiela Artisanal) roam.
Stacked Margiela chairs. Sourced from vintage shops and junk yards alike, chairs are collected and painted by the Studio in a quest for uniformity through individuality.
Detail of the in situ furniture/sculpture by Jessi Reaves commissioned by Maison Margiela for their S/S 18 Artisanal collection. Site specific work for the Maison’s headquarters at Rue Saint-Maur.

A member of the Margiela Studio stands on the side stairwell of the Maison’s Rue Saint-Maur headquarters in Paris. The two showrooms were transformed into the S/S 18 Artisanal show venue.
