Chris Moore

Photographer

Born in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne in 1934, Chris Moore entered the world of fashion at the age of 20. He started his career as a photographers’ assistant at Vogue’s in-house studio on Shoe Lane, working alongside Cecil Beaton, Henry Clark and Clifford Coffin, among others.

Following this, Moore was represented for a period by Camera Press agency, but has worked independently ever since. As early as the late sixties, he documented the haute couture collections of designers such as Yves Saint Laurent, Pierre Cardin and Courrèges at exclusive presentations in their Paris showrooms. Moore has continued to photograph live shows and shooting at fashion weeks in London, Paris, Milan and New York became a full-time occupation.

In 2000, he launched Catwalking.com, showcasing all his catwalk photography. The site has become an indispensable resource for the fashion and journalism industries. Moore has a very wide client base of publications, including the Times and Harper’s Bazaar. In 2007, London College of Fashion hosted an exhibition entitled Chris Moore: A Catwalk Retrospective. In 2018, the exhibition Catwalking: Fashion through the Lens of Chris Moore opened at the Bowes Museum in County Durham.
