Dean Chalkley is a photographer and film maker based in London. He grew up in Southend-on-Sea in Essex. After training to be a tailor he put the scissors aside in favour of photography and went onto study at Blackpool and the Fylde College, completing his Photography degree. Whilst at college he began shooting for Dazed and Confused magazine and has shot for many publications since, including campaigns for brands such as Ray Ban and Levis. Filmmaking has become part of Chalkley's creative outlook over the years, in which he depicts his love for culture and music. Some of his recent films include: Strip (2000), Serge (2005), Young Souls (2011) and The New Faces: A Short Film (2012). Personal projects and commissioned work have also produced imagery for several exhibitions including Now Stand Tall (2006), Southend’s Underground (2006), Young Souls (2011) and Look.Hear (2012). in 2012 Chalkley received the 'Outstanding Contribution to Music Photography Award' presented by NME Magazine.
