Richard Gray was in his first year at Middlesex University in 1987/1988 , studying Fashion Design, when his illustrations were entered for a memorial competition for Antonio Lopez, and spotted by Anna Piaggi. His first commissions quickly followed for both Vogue Italia for Anna Piaggi’s D.P. pages, and for Vanity magazine.

During his career, he has collaborated with (amongst others): Agent Provocateur, Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood, Boudicca, Givenchy, Julien MacDonald, Antonio Berardi, Miguel Adrover, Dunhill, Printemps, Rayban, Tumi, Immodesty Blaize, Britney Spears, Kylie Minogue and William Baker.

Editorially his work has been used in many international publications including Vogue Italia, Vogue Gioiello, Vogue Pelle, V Magazine, Stella, Saturday Telegraph Magazine, Decoy Magazine, Io Donna, Mixte, Commons & Sense, A Magazine curated by Stephen Jones, Madame Figaro and the cover of Flaunt magazine. His work is in the permanent collection of the V&A.

Gray illustrates with ink, pencil, gouache and airbrush.
