California's most fashionable resident decided to up sticks in 2013! After decades of living in her Malibu Dreamhouse, Barbie put her three-storey beachfront home on the market and embarked on a worldwide tour for inspiration on where to move next.
Her first stop was London, where she took up a front row seat at Roksanda Ilincic's A/W show at The Savoy. Barbie was thrilled to see an abundance of dreamy fondant pink looks in the new collection, and the two leading international fashion icons - who hadn't seen each other since Ilincic dressed Barbie in 2009 to celebrate Barbie's 50th anniversary - caught up backstage post-show.
Having studied architecture at Belgrade University and fashion design at the Faculty of Applied Arts, before coming to London to study at Central Saint Martins, Roksanda felt sympathetic to Barbie's Dreamhouse dilemma, and the two reached the conclusion that Ilincic should advise Barbie on how her new home should look, taking inspiration from London to give Barbie a base with a modern and contemporary feel.
Having completed a work placement at SHOWstudio in 2010 - during which she assisted Nick Knight on several shoots and helped organise fashion week show tickets - Barbie dropped by the the team's new Knightsbridge HQ to share her news, and it was agreed they would all work together.
Since its foundation, SHOWstudio has been passionate about pioneering new technologies and exploring innovative mediums. From live streaming Nick Knight's photo shoots, to 3-D scanning Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell, SHOWstudio's team has constantly embraced new digital challenges, so it seemed only nature that we would create Barbie's home in 3D. Working side-by-side with Barbie and Ilincic we re-imagined the iconic doll's house, taking it to new fashionable heights.
