Actress and director Asia Argento created this mesmerising series of film shorts exclusively for SHOWstudio over the course of October 2006. The vignettes, drawing on an ad-hoc 'video diary' aesthetic but in fact painstakingly directed, intertwine reality with fantasy thanks to a script devised by Emma Forrest that confuses fiction with reality.

    Sweet..Good for you Asia. This is great. I think most people who have digital diaries are never truly honest even with them self’s, most people always seem to have a curtain mask over them and you never meet the real person, but you seem to be so comfortable with your self that you have no need for a mask.

    I like you but only know you through media.Meaning I'm no friend because we never experienced a confrontation. Whats going to happen in Italy is going to happen. Don't torture yourself too much. What you do right now can be an interesting thing but until a certain extent. I hope there are some inspiring assholes or maybe even some sweet people to give you a lot of attention and distraction.Its really nice to look in to youre eyes to follow days

    If you look there are tons of people to befriend, and look a little harder and you'll find some real good one's. i feel bad for you, i feel lonely when i am betrayed by friends, it hurts to be lonely like that, feeling all by yourself. Remember how many people are in the world, and imagine the possibilities of the different types of people. There are really cool people out here, but you just have to find them, and then hold on to them. you are lucky to have your daughter to hold onto for life. I'm not saying chin up, because blue times are times just like bright times, they help you change, you must change for things to get better. think transition, and never stop looking for cool people. you should know what cool people are. never have to many friends. only good ones.

    Asia my dear, I can relate totally to how lonley and sad you feel. I've spent many years fighting it and it always comes back no matter what. its very strange.. something very deep and i think there are just some of us that go thru it... in that way. But i want you to know, if i could be your friend i would love to. you are everything that's real to me and beautiful and just, the kind of girl i could totally see myself hanging with. (mind you i dont have many friends at all, mostly just my family) because friends are very hard to find and women can be so curel. but i love you so much and if you ever need anything, if it means anything- im here... xxxxxxx

    I think that everyone can relate to being lonely. Everyone has some friends but most of the time its more like cover up friends not real friends. A real friend will be with you in good and bad times but not all of the time unless that friend i your other half and even then they might not always be there with you. I have noticed one thing about this world and that is that you are bron alone, you will feel alone and you will die alone everything else is just to let time pass by. P.S the best friend anymore can have is their child don't ever let go of them laz

    ya, i know where you are coming from Asia. I was "labeled" a freak back in school, but everyone knew of me, they just didnt know me! But thats ok, it was just a label, i was unhappy, i've let people down , vice versa, but smoking weed, and partying makes me feel normal when i take a trip to soothe the pain... freaks accept people for how and who we are, and that my friend is what life should be all about.....

    I love Simone Simon, a very good actress with a sad and melancholic look.. do you like "Cat people" and "The curse of cat people"? I find them very poetic, Irina is such beautiful and hurt and lonely... she would like to be accepted, but she scares people (and animals ;-)).. something inside her does it.. her nature, her curse.. sometimes I feel very close to that character, do you?

    she's having a bath... leave the woman alone! you can never film yourself and be unconsious of it, so its natural for an entertainer to want to make the imagery more visual by doing something.. Asia just does everything and anything she wants and its the beauty of her spirit and a credit to her personality that she manages to make it all very compelling..its not like we're watching big brother, but in a way we are... I keep feeling the urge to grab a robe and cover her up from prying eyes - sometimes when you share yourself to the "ether" you're showing people you shouldn't which disturbs me on asia's behalf, she seems so fragile and far from home at the moment.

    Everybody seems so intense in this forum on Asia ,so I feel just a little glib to say this but how fantastic that someone can send such a beautiful film in across the internet and it appears to be lit almost soley by a mobile phone!! It looks better than the lighting on most Holywood films and must cost nothing! So exciting for us who care about such things.

    you have to create your own fake happiness to be able to deal with the real unhappiness. this defence mechanisum is learnt from an early age. I have read about you and your relationship with your father. Fake happieness is compulsary for any child who has had to cope with a difficult father. I can say with confidence that your strength has come from this. I feel rotton inside when i think of all the pain and anguish my own father has inflicted on me. He has missed out on me. He has the loss. I have the corrage to love myself even if he dosen't. i see this in you Asia

    it is really hard talking from the Heart. I try to sometimes with family but when you go beneath the surface you realise each person has a different take on a situation that may still be raw for you. Its hard realising that an event that can take place years ago can have such a deep effect on others. When you are young you dont have the power of expression, so its hard to explain or talk about what you see or experiance. But strangly as you age the feeling doesnt, and when you think back to things you will always look at it in the same way you did then.

    Besides the search for self, art throughout all of history, is and has been the search for God. All great art has something sacred and religious about it. It is no different with cinema: Chaplin, Renroir, Bresson, Ozu, Dreyer, Rossellini, Pasolini, Antonioni, Fellini etc, and now van sant who seems to have transformed himself in the last few years. And it doesnt matter if the artist is an atheist, for atheism is a profoundly religious state. When art is lacking the search for trancendence, all that remains is style, fashion, and tedious repetition. What we have today mostly....

    Great enviroment, touching story, just love the way she speak her native language. I would love to know what she feels and thinks about sex, sexuality, her first experience with a sexual life, nudity and the differences between the way she sees it and the rest of the ordinary people see it. This is very interesting and it makes me start thinking about all this stories and parts of my life that i never saw in this different aspects... i dont know i guess i should sleep a little g night!

    Italian is more beautiful than French, by far. I've never thought French was attractive or poetic. Though, it's easy to translate songs to because every single verb rhymes. Fact. I should've learned Italian in high school instead because then I'd know about your first love.

    I feel the same, more often than not. I have a job that I enjoy and I'm able to take care of my mother and help my brother...yet, not a day goes by where I don't feel like a failure on some level, but talking to my family, being around my family helps that. All I can suggest, if I may be so bold, is that you should spend more time with your loved ones, as much as you can stand. The fact that they exist and love you may be the salve you need.     The problem with Scarlett Diva is that it never escapes literalness and you didnt find a way to trasform what was in your head into something poetic. But when the film is watched with your commentary turned on something else happens. The film becomes very interesting and inches nearer to poetry.     Hey Asia, I'm 26 and from Cali... I liked all of the options you mentioned except for suicide and the drugs...you are much stronger than those two choices. Take it one step at a time, think about where you would like to be 5 years from now and start out slow and have patience. It is hard at first to make changes in your life style, I know, I was an alcoholic with my share of problems and mistakes. Trust me, life can be beautiful if we work at some things that need to change. Hope your not reading this and thinking it's a pile of shit cause your like so awesome and I want to see you in many more films.

    There's always time to help people you care about, you don't need to schedule that. The same goes for enjoying your life. I spend a lot of time taking care of my neice who is about your daghter's age, and I definitely feel like like I could be a father. The thought of leaving a child motherless is disturbing, and you can't die because I've only just found you. You've become too strong to be an addict. This is probably the most I've ever talked, but you gave a lot of options. Right now you need some real people to talk to. Talk to me, I have a phone and I'm almost always alone. Or, you could just look at pictures of me I put on my profile and pretend to talk to me. That's what I've been doing to you a lot lately. I've gotten to know you more through these videos than I probably would have if I met you, I'm sure. Your options are good, but people on the internet can't run your life. Especially not these people, some of them think you're a witch and say your diary is trash. Speaking of suicide, a good question comes to mind. How would you want to die? Aside from burning, obviously. I think I've fallen in love with the dark circles under your eyes.

    drug addicts make terrible mothers, and dead ones, even worse, don't go there! holidays are good as is having your own house/space.. get an allotment and grow vegetables, and reconnect to the earth or um, something. Buy a vineyard and run that, teach acting and write and be there for your daughter, go on a long globe-hopping holiday and reenergise yourself, make more of your photography which I always love looking at, make yourself available to people not just in a visual way but as maybe a teacher of film, build something, go to iceland and see some dolphins, start a fashion empire. do something that is good for yourself for a change. x

    You're far too gifted and smart to make a choice that will fulfill you "completely". For some people fulfillment doensn't mean anything because they're above that tricky social notion. And it's a lonely place, indeed. But aren't the best spots always so? There's this whole world around you but there's only a few places and people that will provide a compatible energy with yours. You might spend your whole life looking after them. But action can be diversion. Some parts of the Graal are already there (like your daughter). For the rest, you're the only one knowing what you're truly missing. Listed-actions can be positive diversions. When it's not a diversion then the choice is unlimited. Most of your options are valuable except beeing destructive. It's paying the ultimate attention to things or people that have been hurting you and they do not deserve it. But for a while should'nt you just try doing NOTHING? Beeing with oneself considering that there's no plan for the future shouldn't be scary. It's the ultimate freedom. Not many of us have that luck. If you stop your actions for a while the system that surrounds you might react differently and things will move by themselves without beeing "corrupted" by your influence. The path might be cleaned-up. Then you'll be able to choose. What's at the end of it doesn't matter. Art, private life, tropical island or Romania is one and only thing: how you're going to deal with it. If your urge to work and give is a necessity to occult reality, for not beeing deceived from what you get in return. Then can you forgive us and forgive yourself? With the exception of the drug addiction and the suicide, everything that was you mentioned are things that you "should" do...but what tugs at your heart the most out of the "I'm still alive and capable" choices? Having us choose for you doesn't solve your quandary in the long run, however tantalizing a way out it seems.

    HI Asia Honey i think you should deff take some time off to start with and to figure out what it is you really want. Be it a house, building something in romania, a holiday somewhere, maybe even detatching from Marco. I dont know because im not you but you really have to listen to your intuition. I wish so badly i was able to talk with you or contact you somehow because i know id be an excellent friend for you. I feel like you could be my sister somehow (so many similarities) you're really a wonderfully beautiful person so drug addict & suicide absolutely not. I watchd Sally Potter's Yes in the middle of the night a few days ago. It woke me up, tingled my nerves, shoo me out of the ennui. I was tired when it started and after I could not sleep. I rarely go to the cinema though cause there is rarely anything to see. What I want from a film is the same thing I want from any experience. More fucking life! Same with other arts, same with travelling. My grandfather is very old. He doesnt like to travel anymore. He doesnt like to watch movies, unless it is something he has already seen. He is dead. You sound very old.

    You dont miss that much by not going to the movies.You wanted to write something light (a comedy)I read somewhere. I prefer the heavy stuff but its probably sucking youre energy. I would not be surprised even when you would make some sort of comedy it will be a dark one. I planned to make a short film in San Gimignano end of this month but "my" dancer had no time. Have to be patient. Been friends with an actress in the past but rather work with a dancer to act. (Then I have the biggest ego on set.) But its a no budgetfilm just me and a dancer hopefully early next year.

    what is it about lifting your legs over your head, lifting your back up and waving them around that is so satisfying? I use to do this a lot when i was younger and dream of being a gymnast. Its funny how seeing such things can make you realise that you cant rememeber when you stopped doing it but just that you had. But as long as i had not stopped dreaming of being, i guess as long as you dont stop the important bit. The part of the act you most enjoyed, for me it was dreaming about what i was to do.

    When I was a kid while working on the field a grasshopper jumped on my shoulder. I was scared for the moment by the surprise. The creature looked even bigger because it was so near my eyes.     Passenger: Abortion, dick-sucking, and more importantly, manipulation of audience, in my book, are all controversial topics to be dissected in an open-season forum such as this because people will have and voice differing opinions, hence the controversy. I didn't say it was shocking or even clever though, but my own opinion is that I like it because it is interesting and provocative... the fact that Asia has produced something that encourages reaction but perhaps most of all frustration at the promise of interaction where there in fact, is none, is the most interesting thing to me... but i understand that some people will think these lame and teasing, because they have become blase/desensitised to anything..

    but that's assuming we take the diaries at face value, which is what it appears we are to do. This is what I mean about audience manipulation, the uncertainty of reality...it's enticing, its frustrating, its boring because we lose interest in being told one thing and delivered what we percieve to be another. We'll never know...so Asia becomes like...jesus (ok don't hate me go with the analogy), you love her because that's just how you feel, you hate her because you think she makes false promises, you are wholly indifferent to what she does, you think it's a fake, you want to believe, you're bored by the whole attention-seeking angle, you're titilated by the availability... it is so open to interpretation, and so has succeeded because of the differing reactions to it. If noone cared, and noone bothered, and noone Felt anything in relation to these pieces, and it was unanimous, then it might be a failure. i guess the point is, if you don't like it, then don't watch...or will the addiction of voyeurism take over? ;)
