Cassette Playa is the label of London-based designer Carri Munden. Munden studied at the University of Westminster, and has been showing the Cassette Playa collections–originally as part of the London menswear initiative, MAN–since Autumn/Winter 2006.
Munden was nominated for Best Menswear Designer at the British Fashion Awards in 2007, while Cassette Playa was listed as Best Fashion Designer in Rolling Stone’s Best of Rock 2008. Previously a contributing fashion editor at Super Super magazine, Munden has worked with artists such as M.I.A., Klaxons, Dizzee Rascal, Late of the Pier, Patrick Wolf, Ruff Sqwad, and Boy Better Know. She has also collaborated with Nicola Formichetti of Dazed & Confused, and styled the DUNK BE TRUE exhibition with Nike in 2008.
In collaboration with Nike, a Cassette Playa Nike Blazer Premium was exclusively created and featured in her Spring/Summer 2008 show, and was released in selected international stores in late 2008. Within the same year, a series of portraits by Cassette Playa was featured in Exactitudes, an exhibition at Selfridges London, and her work was also included in the Fashion V Sport exhibition at London's Victoria & Albert Museum.
