Joanne Entwistle is a reader in cultural and creative studies at King's College London, and before that, a lecturer in Sociology at the University of Essex. Her research interests lie in fashion, dress, gender and sexuality. She was awarded her doctorate in sociology from Goldsmiths College in 1997 and has since published numerous articles on fashion and dress for the academic and mainstream press. Entwistle is the author of The Fashioned Body: fashion, dress and modern social theory (Polity, 2000) and co-editor with Professor Elizabeth Wilson of Body Dressing (Berg 2001).
Other projects include a study of male fashion modelling, which explores questions of career and identity. In 2002 she embarked on a large-scale project, funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), to examine the work of fashion buying within the UK retail sector.
