John-Michael O'Sullivan

Architect

John-Michael O'Sullivan is an architect and writer. A graduate of University College Dublin’s School of Architecture, he has worked in Milan and London on retail concepts for clients including Brown Thomas, John Rocha, Mercedes Benz and Fortnum & Mason. As a brand archivist, he has explored the histories of firms like Sunspel, Crombie, Globe-Trotter and John Lobb, and advised on brand identity, tone-of-voice and narrative for a range of contemporary labels. He started working with HMKM, a London-based design consultancy who specialise in the retail experience, in 2011. 

As a writer, O’Sullivan’s focus is on design, photography and fashion, particularly in midcentury America. He is a regular contributor to a range of print publications, including EsquireThe Big Black Book, The Observer and Metal, and reports from fashion weeks for Nowfashion.com. He contributed an afterword to Rolling Stone photographer Baron Wolman’s book Groupies And Other Electric Ladies (2015), exploring the afterlives of the women immortalised in Wolman’s 1969 photographs, and contributed a profile of pioneering British fashion editor Alison Settle to Archivist. He was also features editor for the menswear biannual Article.
