The brand founded by former assistant to A-Cold-Wall* designer Samuel Ross, Elliot Long, introduces their latest capsule collection dubbed CENTRAL with a series of arresting character vignettes and and a fashion film shared exclusively with SHOWstudio.
Elliot Long was only 22 years old when he presented his debut collection for his label Parabola Works in 2021. Still, you would never have guessed it with the level of refinement seen in the critically acclaimed debut dubbed Imp Of The Perverse (after the short story by Edgar Allen Poe). Before establishing his label, Long cut his teeth as the assistant to A-Cold-Wall* designer Samuel Ross. While Parabola Works is far from the utilitarian aesthetic of Ross’ own label, Long's focus on cutting and craftsmanship is masterful. It’s the brand’s recently released capsule collection, CENTRAL, that showcases Long's attention to detail and razor-sharp tailoring in images by Aidan Zamiri and a fashion film directed by Jackson Forsythe shared exclusively with SHOWstudio.
The dynamic twenty-piece collection features the brand’s tried and true tailoring truncated with sartorial staples like ergonomic tank tops and hoodies. With a uniform in mind, the pared back designs include cropped jackets and cargo trousers making the perfect everyday garments. Of course, they’re all finished with the brand’s signature details like hand-fired earthenware buttons and external darting. The brand’s no-compromise approach and sustainable ethos means the capsule was crafted at a zero-waste circular London facility.
To bring the capsule collection to life, Long enlisted the help of one of London’s most exciting emerging image-makers Aidan Zamiri. Known for his dreamy, contorted aesthetic, Zamiri has become a favourite collaborator of today’s biggest experimental names in music, including Sega Bodega, Shygirl and FKA Twigs. Most recently the creative director has been the visionary behind the imagery and album cover of Caroline Polacheck’s highly anticipated sophomore album Desire, I Want To Turn Into You, that was released earlier this week.
‘Elliot is making a very specific world with Parabola and I'm grateful to be a part of it,’ Zamiri explains. ‘There's a lot of poetry in the moments that feel in-between, a feeling that I think a lot of people can relate to. That's what we tried to capture in the images. It's a little bit haunted yet hopeful.’
The fashion film directed by Jackson Forsythe presents the capsule in a similarly dreamlike way. The eerie aesthetic could be likened to David Lynch's surrealist horror classic Eraserhead. Shot in black and white, the film stars poet and Parabola Works collaborator Sonny Hall and a cast of characters traversing the tense atmosphere in the sinister haunted house setting.
Parabola Work's capsule collection CENTRAL was showcased on 18 February alongside installation pieces and a film on at W1 Curates, Timber Street as part of London Fashion Week, where visitors could try on and the collection, as well as experience the brand through the venue's 360-degree screens.
