The French designer has been commissioned by the British department store to stage a creative 'atelier experience' which will see the Marine Serre team in residence at Selfridges' The Corner Shop between 20 and 23 April.
From the outset, French designer Marine Serre's eponymous label has garnered a cult following for its hybrid mixture of classic French couture shapes, sportswear references and fabrics. Ever since the designer's debut collection in 2016, the Marine Serre brand has pioneered the production of new garments based on end-of-life materials, a practice Serre labels as 'Regenerated'. Believing in her radical seamless approach to design, Selfridges have announced the Parisian designer will take up residency in the store's Corner Shop pop-up.
For three days, from 20 - 23 April, the Marine Serre team will take up residence at The Corner Shop to stage a 'creative atelier experience', which will see the designer decorate the space with vintage furniture upholstered with crescent moons and an array of exclusive pieces from the brand's State of Soul S/S 23 collection including an upcycled denim belt dress. In addition, there will also be two couture dresses and an upcycled t-shirt dress from S/S 23's Hardcore Couture on display. Customers will be offered the exclusive opportunity to shop the display garments, with each piece available on a custom made-to-order basis, where garments will then be created in the Marine Serre Paris-based atelier with a 1- 2 months lead time. During the month's total residence, The Corner Shop will offer a series of workshops dedicated to regenerative design and creation to inspire the next generation.
During the three-day period that the Marine Serre team will be present, the label's design experts will be busy transforming vintage pieces into custom-made t-shirts where customers will be given a choice to upcycle their own t-shirts or choose from a selection of vintage options. During this time, the first Marine Serre sneaker MS Rise will debut, and each person who purchases a pair will be invited to use the soles to print their custom t-shirt. On the last weekend, visitors can bring their own clothes to be printed with an iconic signature moon Marine Serre logo.
