Sinead Gorey Presents Fashion for the New Age Raver for S/S 20
As London Fashion Week drew to a close, the DiscoveryLAB at 180 The Strand saw creative hub Sensergy present the Sinead Gorey Spring/Summer 20 collection in a drum and bass-fuelled, virtual reality experience on Sunday 15 September.
The creative incubator Sensergy was founded by recent London College of Fashion graduate Clodie Worboys as part of her final media project for Creative Direction for Fashion. Acting as a platform for emerging artists, Sensergy works with both the physical and the digital, showing their debut exhibition as part of London Fashion Week Men’s in June.
Their latest spectacle saw the presentation of Sinead Gorey’s SS20 collection, Elevation, Dream But Do Not Sleep, in a squat party scene installation by Grace Capewell and Izu Chung, set to the musical stylings of CASHiN0 and Fox White. Sexual empowerment, spiritual fulfilment and nostalgic elevation were just some of the key themes explored in Gorey's Spring/Summer 2020 collection.
A south-east Londoner through-and-through, the LCF womenswear grad combines elegant tailoring with technical rave wear in an intrinsically futuristic fashion. Her brand centres around rave culture, and the Spring/Summer 2020 collection recalls her own experience growing up in the London squat raving scene.
Inspired by the asymmetric psychedelic aesthetic of illegal forest parties, for SS20 Sinead Gorey presented bold but functional silhouettes designed for an active lifestyle and the 'new age matured raver'. Accessorised with Converse sneakers and Oakley sunglasses, the collection saw breathable Lycra digitally printed with vivid optical prints taken from original images of stretch décor.
The collaborative effort between Sensergy and Sinead Gorey seemed like a match made in rave heaven, and it didn’t take long for the space to be filled, as intrigue and the echoes of booming bass led attendees through the maze that is the DiscoveryLAB space. Amidst the darkness, digital projections of the collection had the audience enthralled, as did Sensergy’s Parallel Reality Experience which included the use of a VR headset to further explore the stimulating digital display.
