Riccardo Tisci presented his latest Givenchy collection in a glass tent erected next to Napoleon's tomb. Inspired by the American dream, Tisci cited his childhood obsessions with the American flag and the mythological figure of Minotaur, as the catalysts to creating a fearless collection that fused sharp suiting with Tisci’s signature luxurious sportswear.
Formed together on a palette of red and black, the energetic collection was emblazoned with star and stripe motifs that adorned suits, sweatshirts, kilts and leggings. A more masculine stance than last season’s floral approach, Tisci continued his subversion of masculinity as models wore sparkly embellished nose pins (a nod to Minotaur’s golden nose pin) against that street inspired gear.
Key pieces included pea coats in wool and leather, leather biker and bomber jacket and denim in various washes from the lightest shade of blue to dark indigo, all of which were inspired by 1950s work wear. Prints included Minotaur’s head and iconic renderings of the stars and stripes while embellished t-shirts, jumpers and sweatshirts featured enamelled coated stars and crystals.
Tisc’s collections are hugely seductive as the designer exudes confidence in his youthful take on menswear. The Givenchy man is presented as a rebellious teenager with a nonchalant attitude towards fashion, but the designer manages to offer enough conventional clothing to satisfy both the directional, trend led Givenchy follower and also the traditionalist. Another stellar collection by Tisci who continues to stamp his individualistic aesthetic on the iconic French brand.
