Christopher Kane always uses his womenswear collections as the jumping-off point for his menswear line. While that doesn’t allow for many surprises, given that the fashion pack usually falls over backwards for his girls’ garb, it’s a smart move for ensuring good reviews and healthy revenue.

Rather than bother with the hassle of a catwalk show, Kane selects to show off his latest wears with a small, fuss-free presentation. It’s an apt way to display clothing that is so predictably covetable.

The season saw Kane’s love affair with purple and black continue. The Frankenstein motifs from the womenswear S/S showcase reappeared on t-shirts and elegant slippers, while his familiar velvet was used to craft inky evening trousers. To break up the simplicity and obvious commerciality of the showing, Kane had thrown in some fun shirting with shaved kid fur collars, which naturally quickly became photo fodder for the Instagram-loving fashion paps.

Despite the macabre motifs, this tidy collection of casual Kane classics, oversized outerwear and luxurious 3D chenille jumpers was anything but monstrous.
