The soundtrack at Rodarte deserves a quick nod. The Durutti Column, The Breeders, The Cure, were all there thanks to Michel Gaubert. It was the perfect playlist for a collection that managed to be a little rock and roll and girly at the same time. Maybe it was the mashup of quasi-medieval detailing, armor plates, chain mail sweater squares and draped metal link belts, with superhero space age shapes that created the effect. It could have also been the colors, neons with jewel tones and just the right amount of shine.
There was something elegant, regal and storied, but also fresh and electric. Take, for instance, a brocade top with gunmetal guipure sleeves, per the show notes, with a silk skirt followed by a look with black leather lace up pants. Corset lacing doesn't often keep company with iridescent flou. The graphic cut out oversize t shirts would be fitting for superwoman paying homage to the iconic logo of her male counterpart. Superheroes and knights aside, there was even a look for a Western inclined lady, jackets with long leather fringe. So the whimsical Rodarte girl can have fun moonwalking or playing princess, depending on how she's inclined.
