Sustainability has long been a priority for Selfridges. In 2020, the legendary London retailer introduced their Project Earth initiative as a way to promote circular shopping habits. Not only does that mean Selfridges is curating stock that meets strict environmental and ethical standards, but by 2030 the company wants nearly half its transactions to come from circular products which means pushing second-hand shopping.

That's the basis of The Cornershop's latest pop-up dubbed The Stock Market which is encouraging shoppers to bring their old clothes and accessories to be reappraised for store credit. As part of the pop-up Selfridges has also invited sustainable designer Joshua James Small to host sessions on how to upcycle your old clothes.

From now until 10 June, Small will demonstrate how to rework jeans into a denim ruffle skirt. A longtime SHOWstudio contributor, the womenswear designer has put sustainability at the core of his practice since he launched his eponymous label in 2019. Small-scale production made entirely in England, along with sourcing fabrics that would otherwise go to waste, makes Small the ideal tutor when it comes to breathing new life into old clothes.

The sessions will take place at Selfridge's Corner Shop until the Stock Market pop-up ends on 10 June. The two-hour long sessions are bookable on the Selfridges website with the price of £10 good for transforming one garment. Proceeds from ticket sales will go to Oxfam, a longtime partner of the retailer.

Head to Selfridges.com to book your upcycling session.
