For their winter 2012 collection design duo Woo Young Mi and Woo Jang Hee created a sublime wardrobe for the young gentleman. Inspired by the melancholic loneliness in Edward Hopper’s haunting ‘Nightawks’ paintings, the Wooyounmi collection successfully captured the isolation of an aloof and adverse city.
As models strolled under make shift streetlights erected on the catwalk, the refined collection shone from the shadows. Capturing the mood of Hooper’s sobriety was achieved through a perfectly executed collection in a calm palette of rust, khaki, grey, navy and forest green. Pin stripes and Harris Tweeds were worked into belted coats, waist coats, cropped trousers and super sharp trench coats. Military shapes ensured the clothes remained precise and contemporary.
While the catalyst for the Wooyungmi’s collection may have been the gloom of urban life, the results were beautifully sophisticated clothes that portrayed a polished and informed approach to modern menswear.
