My favorite part of Marco Zanini's highly anticipated Schiaparelli debut was undoubtedly the constellation headpiece worn by a blond Aymeline Valade dressed in black jacket and voluminous skirt. As a teenager, one of my favourite fashion lore stories was of Schiaparelli deciding to embrace the freckles or beauty marks on her face as a unique trait, her very own constellation - that and when she tried to plant flowers to grow from her eyes. All in a quest for beauty.
It follows that Zanini did a sort of genius jolie laide thing - nothing tight, everything a little kooky. There were old school models, candy prints, pouffy sleeves, weird headpieces, colourful hair and historic patterns. Most important, though, I think Schiap would have liked Stella Tennant opening the show in an off the shoulder pink and white sunburst print and Saskia de Brauw as a white pant-suited finale bride with tea-dipped veil.
