Between The Lines: The Refugee Council

published on 26 June 2023

The UK Government has wrongly weaponised refugees and people seeking asylum, denying the thousands who are fleeing conflict, violence and persecution the support and protection which are basic human rights, to push forward harmful new bills in parliament.

In an effort to cut through the deceptive and misleading mainstream news and media narrative, this Refugee Week, SHOWstudio and Nick Knight invited the Refugee Council's CEO Enver Solomon and Cora Corré from The Vivienne Westwood Foundation to explain the true realities of a broken asylum system in the UK. Refugee Council volunteer Mohanad shares his first-hand experiences and views as a refugee from Sudan, joining them to discuss the Government's dangerous Asylum Bill, how it treats children, and what the public can do to help.

We extend our gratitude to Glastonbury Festival and the West Holts stage for showcasing these films. Their support helps amplify the voices of those affected by the broken asylum system.
