Fashion Film: Silent Echoes

by Hideki Yoshida and Shinya Kumazaki on 8 September 2021

Silent Echoes starts on a tense note, a black void filled with sound, devoid of images. The echoes in question are only reflected through the performers' sepia-toned shadows, of which not one but two dance in the light.

From a young, natural-looking girl to a character clothed in traditional dress - the short film switches between these two protagonists as the music builds an aura of inescapable suspense. The ending scene sees one of the characters - dressed in an ancient Japanese folklore costume - performing a ritual of some kind. However, the audience is left wondering who the ritual is for and why it's being performed. Is this a fantasy? Or is this real life? Only you can decide for yourself.
